What is the 'Tire'd Of Waste' Initiative

Hi! I'm Aman, a professional racing driver and class 11 student at Pathways World School  Noida, India. Whenever I am at the racetrack, I notice hundreds of waste tyres lying around. These are either waste tyres thrown away by drivers or tyres broken from the tyre barriers. As a keen student, I thought to myself, "How are these waste tyres impacting the environment" and "What are ways in which they could be recycled and used effectively for other purposes''. After thorough research, I understood the extent of pollution caused by waste tyres in my country. India produces over 175 million metric tonnes of tyres a year! A number that is increasing at a steady rate. With this high rate of production, India produces 100 million metric tonnes of tyre waste, of which only 10% is recycled. Tyre waste leads to air, water, and land pollution in India.

Additionally, cloth waste from the largely growing textile industry is increasing in India. India generates approximately 7,793 kilotonnes of textile waste annually, which accounts for 8.5% of global textile waste. Moreover, only 59% of textile waste in India is recycled or reused. The remaining 41% is downcycled, incinerated, or landfilled. Textile waste has a significant environmental impact. It contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution, and soil contamination.

Ultimately, what drove this project was my passion for animal welfare. I am a major dog lover! India has over 30 million dogs that are left without shelter. Through the Tire'd of Waste initiative, I aim to reduce tyre (rubber) and cloth (textile) waste in Delhi, NCR. I aim to collect waste tyres and textiles from high-wastage factories and convert them into dog beds for animal welfare NGOs in Delhi, India. Why? because we are tire'd of waste.

Our Mission and Vision

Mission

Our mission is to drive positive change in Delhi, India, by improving the lives of stray dogs through innovative initiatives. By repurposing textile and tyre waste into comfortable dog beds, we aim to provide them with warmth and shelter. Additionally, we're committed to raising awareness within the car community about the importance of animal welfare and the impact of rising stray dog populations on NGOs. Through engaging fundraisers at racetracks and automotive events, we seek not only to support our innovative projects but also to contribute meaningfully to animal welfare NGOs, who often face financial strain due to the increasing challenges posed by stray dog populations

Vision

In our visionary outlook, discarded tires and textiles undergo a profound metamorphosis, embodying the spirit of resourcefulness. Simultaneously, stray dogs find solace in these reimagined creations, embracing newfound comfort. As Delhi benefits from reduced waste and heightened environmental consciousness, our expedition is an unwavering dedication to harnessing the transformative power of recycling.

In the next year, our goal is to cultivate partnerships with 10+ organizations, fostering recurring collaborations that amplify our impact. Beyond tire beds, we aim to expand our project's reach by organizing fundraiser events, catalyzing broader community involvement in our mission. We extend an earnest invitation to you to be a part of this journey, where collective efforts lead to enduring transformation. Together, let's sculpt our mission into an everlasting legacy of positive change.
